WELSH RUGBY UNION UNVEILS NEW WEBSITE

Last week Wednesday, fans following Warren Gatland’s team online would have spotted a brand new website for the Welsh Rugby Union. We are delighted to continue our relationship with the WRU upon signing a 3-year contract renewal with the governing body.

Long-Standing Relationship

Team Sotic was behind the design and development of the new website which is focussed on delivering an exceptional user experience for all rugby followers. We have now been working with the WRU since 2002 and our long-standing relationship has allowed us to create a platform which will support their digital transformation and several key aspects of our client’s digital presence.

2 Separate Focusses

With the Welsh side’s continuous global recognition and achievements in rugby, the new digital platform has been built with paired navigation, to cater for the growing number of rugby fans and participants worldwide. The site switcher function also provides two separate focusses so users can now effortlessly switch between the International game and the Regions, or Club and Community depending on their interests. Behind-the-scenes the site is hosted on a secure and robust platform through Sotic’s partnership with Amazon Web Solutions (AWS) to easily handle traffic peaks during key match periods and Sotic will continue to provide a high level of support to the WRU.

Wru website pages

In order to increase user engagement, the site has integrated features such as video, fixtures, results, squad and news. Each of the four Welsh Regions also has its own landing page and which showcases the latest news, fixtures, standings, and imagery at a glance.

Feature-Rich

With the WRU’s commitment to the governance, development and promotion of the game of rugby at all levels, the Club & Community section of the website highlights the amateur game, a vital facet to the game’s longevity. First-timers can utilise the Club Finder feature, or develop their skill through the coaching resources provided, which have all been made accessible for users through an intuitive layout and easy navigation options.

Flexible And Robust

True to our agile process, the website is built on Sotic’s super-charged version of WordPress CMS and Digital Asset Management System to support WRU’s impressive library of imagery. Our cloud-based solutions provide our client with the resources needed to continue creating exceptional video and other digital content. With such a robust yet flexible infrastructure in place, the mobile-first platform is both feature-rich and fast. Additionally, Sotic’s featured article post type is, for the first time, available as a page template, bringing static content to life.

Over the last two years, we have undertaken a large-scale migration to the WordPress CMS, underlining the agency’s credentials as innovators within the sports digital market.
