Behind the scenes at The Tour of Britain
#TeamSotic’s Marketing Assistant Sophie McConnell spent Monday on the road, literally, at Stage 2 of Britain’s most exciting road race, The OVO Energy Tour of Britain.
On Monday I got the opportunity to go behind-the-scenes with our client, Sweetspot Group, who run and organise The Tour of Britain (TOB).
North Devon came out in force for Stage 2 to give The TOB a warm welcome, lining the streets as riders, including Team Sky’s Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas, sped through the streets, including lots of kids who were excited to get a glimpse of their cycling heroes.
Several stalls and a big screen were set up in the ‘TOB village’ offering a range of cycling merchandise and hot food to keep patiently waiting fans busy while they ducked the showers in the build up to seeing the riders finish.
It wasn’t just cycling fans that were out in force, with lots of local and national media teams there to cover the days events as well. The Imperial Hotel in Barnstaple was home for the media centre at Stage Two of the race, providing comfy armchairs and fully functioning WIFI and TV signal, which I was informed are hard to come by.
The Sweetspot team were busy using their website www.tourofbritain.co.uk that has been designed for them to have complete editorial control, meaning they were easily able to update their live blog with race images and videos and results.
Overall, the day gave me some great insight into how #TeamSotic products and services are actually put into practice on live events such as The TOB.
