Team Sotic’s Thinesh Jegan conquers the Himalayas

#TeamSotic’s intrepid Head of Design, Thinesh Jegan, has recently ticked a big item off the bucket list, having completed a trek to Everest Base Camp.

TJ is a man on a mission to visit every country in the world and his recent trips to North Korea and Nepal see his tally at 65.

Thinesh admits that he is an adrenaline junkie and as soon as the idea of the trek was suggested to him, he knew he wanted to take on the challenge. It took little persuasion for him to sign up for his second mountain climb, having already completed Snowdonia.

Solar heaters used for boiling kettles!

Although slightly wary of altitude sickness, Thinesh embraced every moment of the twelve-day trek, with only basic food, utmost basic accommodation and sleeping in sub zero temperatures.

These tough conditions only heightened the emotions for Thinesh when he did reach the base camp.

“I was truly humbled by what I had achieved that day, reaching 5385 meters.

At Base Camp

The hardest part is definitely the lack of oxygen on the ascents, especially going above 3000m. We had to have ‘rest days’ for the body to acclimatise to the elevation with much less oxygen in the air.

Above 4000m, even a simple 10-minute walk is followed with endless panting and multiple short stops. My expedition group did pretty well though, supporting each other and we all made it to the base camp.”

The trip showed Thinesh just how mentally and physically strong he is and he is now even more in awe of the beauty of Mother Nature.

As for his travels? “I’m on country 65 now and still on course to visit all the countries in the world.”
