Instagram shrinks API limit
This week Instagram have surprised developers with a huge reduction in how much data they can pull from the Instagram API.
They have shrunk the API limit from 5,000 to 200 calls per user per hour and restricted permissions even further on their API endpoints.
At Sotic, we are currently looking in to what effect this will have on our clients. We don’t currently know the full extent of the changes, but essentially, the way we display Instagram posts on our websites is fundamentally changing with greater restrictions on permissions and more admin.
The advancement of their deadline date for their planned series of deprecations was moved forward with no warning or prior announcement. This has resulted in a large number of developers and agencies having little to no time to make changes.
Instagram’s parent company Facebook has been embroiled in a series of privacy scandals and it is likely this move comes as the company attempts to improve data privacy.
