Rebranding a website – Six Nations Rugby
When you work in sport you become accustomed to the regular changes in sponsors for clubs, venues and tournaments, and this week we overhauled our client Six Nations’ website (www.natwest6nations.com) in line with the news on Wednesday that NatWest is the new sponsor of ‘Rugby’s Greatest Championship.
Sotic has been working with Six Nations Rugby as its digital provider since 2007. In fact, September marked a successful decade of working together. A decade in which digital, not to mention the Six Nations digital platform, has changed completely.
Rebranding, or re-skinning a website is a significant amount of work, particularly where a previous sponsor has, over time, become embedded in the design, layout, content and metadata.
To the casual observer, this week we turned the Six Nations Rugby website from blue to purple and replaced a few logos. However, behind-the-scenes we worked with the domain, replaced every instance of the championship logo as well as text references and imagery across the three language variants (English, French and Italian) of the website. As well as all the front end changes there was also considerable planning and execution around meta and SEO in order to maintain rankings, authority and organic traffic.
With a major announcement planned and activity to roll out across all digital channels, it was a time-crucial project that involved staff from our Platform, Content, Production and Account Management Teams.
