We’re looking for a heavyweight PHP stats developer, with a keen interest in sport to be based in our Cardiff Office.
Since the early ‘00s, we’ve been a leading provider of websites and other web-based solutions to a wide range of sports clients. We work with customers ranging from clubs to tournaments to governing bodies in many sports, eg Rugby, Football, Sailing, Motorsport and others.
Sotic delivers a high-availability infrastructure, supporting websites and services for large sporting events that attract over 60,000 unique visitors a minute during peak times. We intend to stay at the forefront of technology and are in the process of migrating our infrastructure to a cloud-based solution.

We are a team of over 30 people spread across three offices in London, Hastings and Cardiff. Our highly specialised team is made up of technical developers, designers, content executives, social media specialists, marketing experts and dedicated account managers. Having begun to explore new areas in the sports industry we are looking for enthusiastic, innovative and inquisitive team members to help us deliver our services to more clients.
We’re looking for a great technical developer with problem-solving skills to join our existing talented and experienced Development team. You’ll be working on widely used and technically challenging products set within the digital sports industry.
We have an established set of web-based products such as player/club statistics, match results publication, online booking systems, CRM and web shops. These products are authored in PHP and deployed in a LAMP environment. Some of your responsibilities will revolve around improving and maintaining these products so experience with PHP/MySQL would be beneficial, as is a drive to isolate areas of legacy code and incrementally improve them.
The front end is just as important and we look for stand-out ways of working with jQuery and CSS frameworks (including Twitter bootstrap) and integration with CMS systems including WordPress.
You will also be involved in the development of new products – we welcome innovation and fresh ideas so you will have a chance to shape the future of our technology.
We currently use a number of technologies and methodologies. We realise that you may not have experience with all of these, but you should have a passion to learn and adopt them and a willing to investigate and further your knowledge:
– MVC Frameworks (mainly, but not limited to Zend Framework 1 and 2)
– APIs/Microservices/Service Orientated Architecture
– Amazon Webservices (AWS)
– Queuing systems (RabbitMQ, SQS)
– NoSQL Databases (MongoDB)
– Caching (Varnish, CDNs)
– Version control and CI/CD (git, Jenkins, subversion)
– TDD/BDD, using PHPSpec, PHPUnit and Behat

Negotiable depending on experience.
