Client Login Sotic Partners with Amazon Web Services Always at the forefront of modern technology, Sotic is midway through a migration to the Amazon Web Services cloud hosting platform. So, what is cloud, and what does it mean for our clients? ┬áTraditionally, companies that run websites rent space in data centres and buy or rent hardware such as servers, network switches, firewalls, load balancers, etc. and then install and maintain operating systems, network performance, security protocols and most importantly the software that’s needed to run websites and applications. Sotic currently runs and maintains a setup like this on which our applications are hosted. While it has worked very successfully for us and our clients, the constraint of this setup is that our performance and scalability is bound by the hardware that we purchase and so we are constantly forward planning to ensure that we have spare capacity to meet the peak demand for our clients. Cloud computing is about renting virtual servers in a virtual data centre on the internet, which at a press of a button can increase or decrease in capacity. This means that we can almost instantly turn on more servers if we experience an unexpected high website traffic load, but importantly we also benefit from the economy of scale of having a huge team of experts looking after security, networks and uptime; not to mention the ability to switch on services around the world at any time and take advantage of a large global network of computing resources.
