Is Twitter set to stop counting links and media in character count?

by | May 17, 2016

Bloomberg Technology reported yesterday that Twitter is set to give users more freedom to compose longer tweets in a move which will see them stop counting photos and links as part of the 140 character limit.

Twitter have not made the decision public but according to Bloomberg’s source, it is believed that it could come into effect within the next two weeks.

Links currently take up to 23 characters of a tweet, reducing the space available to users for their own writing when sharing other online content.

Back in January, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said that the company was looking for new ways to display text on Twitter, and would experiment based on how people use the service.
