Your Club Your Lions – From grassroots rugby to the British & Irish Lions

Client Login Your Club Your Lions – From grassroots rugby to the British & Irish Lions Have you been watching the British & Irish Lions in action over the past few weeks? Have you ever wondered where it all started for these players at the very pinnacle of their rugby careers? Sotic, who have been partnering with the Lions on digital since before the 2009 Tour to South Africa, are delighted to have been involved in the Your Club Your Lions project. An online library of more than 800 players, Your Club Your Lions is a portal which plots every single rugby club to have had a hand in producing a British & Irish Lion, going right back to the very first Tour in 1888. British & Irish Lions Head Coach Warren Gatland told lionsrugby.com; “The Lions is unique and when you look at this map, it is just one more example of what makes it so special. “It’s great to be able to see where all the Lions have come from and to recognise the clubs and, by association, all the unsung heroes who have given so much to develop these players. “As a gateway to the stories and the clubs it’s fantastic. There is something there for anyone with an interest in club rugby as it’s a fascinating way of connecting with the Lions.” Sotic worked with the Lions and their data provider SFMS to create this invaluable tool and to compliment it, the Lions have compiled over 60 features profiling some of the rugby clubs that have produced these great players With a number of new...

Putting LIVE front and centre

Client Login British & Irish Lions: Putting LIVE front and centre As I type this, the British & Irish Lions are playing the Blues in Auckland in the second match of their 2017 tour to New Zealand. It’s a Wednesday morning and the game kicked off at 8.35am. With many fans heading to work promoting the live offering on the website is a no-brainer. We often advise our clients to consider having an alternative view of their website around match or event periods – what fans want from the website on a Monday morning is usually very different from what they want on a Saturday afternoon an hour before kick off, or during the game. Work this morning #TeamSotic #BLUvBIL #lionsnz17 pic.twitter.com/Lm4ikiZQF0 — Lyndsey Irwin (@LyndseyIrwin) June 7, 2017 The Lions are using Live Blogging throughout the tour with one for each match and being to populate it well in advance of each game. In addition we have flipped the homepage on www.lionsrugby.com to point to the Matchcentre from about an hour before kick off this morning so that anyone visiting the site for a quick update (or who wants to covertly try to follow the game while in the office!) can quickly and easily see key match information such as scores, stats and dip into the live blog while anyone interested in more general information can still access this through the menu on the left hand side of the screen. Team Sotic raising funds for Headway Cardiff

Client Login Team Sotic raising funds for Headway Cardiff TeamSotic are taking to the water this June to raise funds for Headway Cardiff, a charity which supports those living with an acquired brain injury and their families. . This is a charity very close to our hearts as our colleague Ed Yarnold suffered a brain injury last year. Ed is making progress and has recently moved from Heath Hospital to Rookwood, a neuro-rehabilitation hospital where Headway Cardiff is based. His family, and in particular his wife Kat, are an inspiration to us all as they support him. So on the 24th June, Sotic’s gang of ‘Ducktape Developers’ are taking on the Comeston Dragon Boat Race. They will race a minimum of three times over a 200m course with the fastest teams making a final. We’re hoping to have a great Sotic Family fun day out and of course, to raise as much as we possibly can. Thanks to some amazingly generous people we’ve already raised over £2,500 for Headway Cardiff, but if you’d like to add to the total please visit our Just Giving page here click here More from the Latest Greg & Craig join our First Line Support Team 2716 Digital Asset Management In Action Facebook’s Instant Articles – Yay or Nay? Digital developments for Leinster & Munster Rugby

Client Login Digital developments for Leinster & Munster Rugby As Leinster and Munster Rugby get ready for their Guinness PRO12 semi-finals this weekend, let us take a closer look at their recent web site revamps that offer much more than just a new look. Both clubs re-launched their websites earlier this season, Leinster prior to Christmas and Munster in the Spring. Both have new, bespoke designs as well as a brand new CMS in WordPress. Often when people think of WordPress they think of the software that is used by millions for online hobby blogging, however WordPress now powers over 25% of the web and as it has grown, so too have it’s features and content management system capabilities. As leaders in the digital sports industry and with particular expertise in the area of statistical integration and display, Sotic have taken the standard WordPress offering and have developed it to meet the demands of our clients. The Leinster Rugby and Munster Rugby websites have fully integrated Opta Sports statistics which are dynamically updated during matches giving a real-time view of team and player performance as the games happen, and because the information fans want from a sports website is different just before or during a game, compared to a Monday morning, we’ve also developed the ability to ‘flip’ the homepage to an alternate view offering key, timely details when matches are live. Sports websites can experience huge peaks in traffic around major matches, events or announcements and our websites are hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), the same hosting provider as used by the likes of AirBnB, so our...
