John Ludlam

Client Login John Ludlam It is with great sadness that we have to announce the sudden and untimely passing, after an accident at home, of our friend, colleague and director of Sotic, John Ludlam. After a successful career in the City, John set up Sotic in 2002 with his friend and business partner Leo Mindel and has for the past 15 years been a cornerstone of the company, setting the standards for vision, hard work and dedication to clients. His love of sport, and in particular rugby, was infectious and that, combined with his sound business acumen ideally placed him to lead the charge on digital strategy within sport. He will be greatly missed, as both a colleague, but more importantly a friend. Our deepest sympathies are with his family and friends, in particular his children Catherine, Jake and Francessca. We would like to acknowledge and thank all our friends and colleagues who have embraced us with sympathy and support during this difficult time. Summer Review featuring Leeds Rhinos, Ireland 2023, Tour of Britain, Guinness PRO14, British & Irish Lions

Client Login Summer Review featuring Leeds Rhinos, Ireland 2023, Guinness PRO14 & British & Irish Lions So, summer is officially over, at least here at Sotic, signalled by the commencement of competitive rugby union with both the Aviva Premiership and the new-look Guinness PRO14 competitions kicking off last Friday. Here’s a look back at some of the projects we have been working on over the summer. Over the summer months the Guinness PRO12 became PRO14 with the addition of two South African clubs, the Cheetahs and the Kings. We undertook work to effectively re-brand the website, create content sections for the two new clubs, and re-mastered the fixture list, league table and live areas of the site to adopt the conference style set-up of the new league as well an extra match each weekend. We also revamped the match pages on the site (see here for an example) the Overview, Preview, Report, Live and Performance Stats, improving layout and increasing the amount of information available for users. The beginning of September also sees the annual Tour of Britain cycling event take place. This multi-stage competition features some of the world’s top riders and is part of the UCI’s Europe Tour. Sotic have been working with The Tour since 2013 and fans can follow each stage of the event live on their website until the big finish this Sunday in Cardiff, just 300 yards from the Sotic Office. The 2017 British & Irish Lions tour was Sotic’s third as digital partner to the Lions and while the first match was played on the 3rd June, it was a culmination of...

Forthcoming Google Chrome Update and HTTPS Domains

Client Login Forthcoming Google Chrome Update and HTTPS Domains In October 2017 Google Chrome update (version 62) will show a ‘NOT SECURE’ warning when a site visitor enters text in a form on an HTTP page for example a completion or e-zine signup…. HTTPS is an internet communication protocol that protects the integrity and confidentiality of data between the user’s computer and the site. This new warning is part of Chrome’s long term plan to mark all pages served over HTTP as ‘not secure’in order to ensure that users have a secure and private online experience when using a website. In January 2017 Google began their quest to improve how Chrome communicates the connection security of HTTP pages by marking HTTP pages as “Not secure” if they had password or credit card fields. Beginning in October 2017, Chrome will show the “Not secure” warning on any pages where data is entered and shis change will affect all websites which include forms, for example ticketing and merchandise sites, accreditation and ezine signups. We our contacting all clients to advise on what steps to take in preparation, but they start with purchasing a robust security certificate and these are available relatively cheaply. There are a number of different types of certificates available; single , multi-domain and wildcard certificates. Many of our clients will opt for a wildcard certificate which covers the origin and a number of subdomains. For example a wild card for *.examplesite.com will cover www.examplesite.com as well as tickets.examplesite.com, shop.examplesite.com and community.examplesite.com. Once the certificate is in place there are a number of other changes to be made but...
